Be prepared for the unexpected: wear your lifejacket

(NC)—It's a beautiful day for boating – the sun is shining, a warm breeze is blowing, and you're having a great time on the water. Just as you get up to put on more sunscreen, a sudden gust of wind causes your boat to rock. Reaching out to find something sturdy to hold on to, you lose your balance and fall over the side without a lifejacket.

You never know what could happen while you're out on the water. On average, 150 people die on Canadian waterways every year, many because they were not wearing a lifejacket. Although you may think you have time to put on your lifejacket if something happens, survivors say this is not always the case. Be prepared — even before you get into your boat.
